Hi – My son is 11 years old and interested in training for 25 yard and 50 yard sprint events. USRPT seems to make a lot of sense for events beyond 25 yards by breaking the races down into managable race pace splits of 25 yards or more. But if the entire event is 25 yards I am unsure of how to go about it and do not see much guidance online. If anyone has advice or experience they can share it would be much appreciated!

    Hi Scott,

At his age a 50 is not really a sprint. I would train the 50 as an adult 100. Of course, technique and muscular development are the primary factors in development so don’t focus on conditioning (he’s 11), focus on efficiency. If he can complete a lap with 1 less stroke every few weeks you are on the right track.

email me ryan@myodurham.com for the training manual
