This is a tough one for me. I totally understand where Rushall is coming from & using the brain imagery in the DVD’s helped as well. I get that being able to go from doing 50 pushups to 100 does NOT translate into faster times BUT…

The world of exercise physiology & training styles have come a long way. It would just seem that a certain amount of neuro-muscular training, explosive movements/plyometrics & certain mobility/flexibility/balance & coordination type training would be useful.

I am also aware of a study stating that static stretches reduce athletic performance as well as creating ligament laxity in a swimmer would be a bad thing!!

Seeing as I am beginning our USRPT program next week….I’ll probably start with just the pool work (as I have a lot to do there) and maybe I’ll ad it later…..we’ll see

I’m going to agree with Kevin’s comments also…

I’ve gone through them once. I wasn’t expecting all the technique info so that was nice but honestly, I don’t know much more about USRPT or how to design a workout/schedule than I did before as I have cruised the net & found a ton of info. A lot of time he is referring to a slide but you can’t see a pointer so you’re kind of guessing as to which frame he’s pointing to.

Still nice to see him physically talk about it. 2 things I would have paid double for….1) a Q & A and 2) actual workout videos!!!

Seeing an actual USRPT workout would be ridiculously helpful. I’ve seen the one Becca Mann put up on swimswam when she worked out with the Andrew’s but it’s still limited.

My name is Paul White and I am a coach with Brunswick Aquatic Club in NC. I’ve coached for 2 years somewhat out of necessity because the team my daughter swam for bailed out a couple years ago so me in all my glory :)started a new team (80-90 kids). My daughter has swam year round for 7 years & has done very well in the sport. That being said, I have questioned her training since she was 9 (now 13). My “real” job is that I am a chiropractor as well as a nutrition & physiology nut…..it NEVER made sense to me watching her swim 4500yds to get better at the 100, etc. My educated brain knew that it was training the wrong system not to mention ingraining some terrible stroke habits that we are now working on. USRPT is a godsend for me as it was my “told you so” moment. We’re not effectively having a long course season per say BUT, I am taking my daughter as well as 3-5 others & working them USRPT the whole summer. It’s going to give me a chance learn & implement with the plans of transitioning our team next year (I am also the dir of competitive swim so I have to say so).

I’ve recently gone through the DVD’s & am online constantly learning. I can’t thank you enough for providing this site because I feel rather lost at times. our short course season is basically over this week & I am beginning the USRPT training staring next week!!

    wish me luck 🙂
