I am very much in favor of USRPT but I have meet wtih disaster in any distance swimming. It is frustrating as the USRPT makes sense and is based on out come based science.
I am experimenting wth traditional endurance swimming and mixing in some USRPT at 100 level. Anything shorer such as 50’s or 75’s give me no endurance even in a 500
If you find something that works please let me knowTylomaParticipantHi Tomas
I too will be at Montreal. I have been using USPRT for about 2 months. My last meet about 3 weeks ago I swam slower. HOwever, the pacing was very ideal for me.
Can you give me a few pointers on you sucess?
The USRPT itself I feel I am doing the right things. It is between sets or warming up that maybe I am missing something. As well, the “taper” maybe I did not do more warm up type swim??
My shorter races are faster. but my mid-distance and distance is slow. I attribute this to lack of volume of USRPT ie I am not at 20×100 holding mile pace yet.
Again, any suggestions you have, I am happy to recieve.
swimmingly yours
LyleTylomaParticipantGreg,
can you first give me you understanding the coach Urbanchecks aerobic/anareobic pacing? I feel I can respond better as it would apply the USPRT. As well, I feel I am missing something in the pacing myself.
much appreciated.

I believe I am getting a tighter race-pace result i.e. tighter splits, and real time results i.e. I know if I hit my mark that day or not.
I don’t have the yardage yet under my belt but will be happy to keep you informed once I doTy

If I understand , you’ll go 20 min of 25’s (say on 30″) for 20 min? In this case it would be 40. What happens when they fail? Or when they don’t fail ?
ThanksTylomaParticipantKris,
I warm up 200-300 then start my first USRPT set. It is easier to do every day.
I take time to do stroke work or occasional drill but it is not everyday, nor a race-pace stroke I just swam
My 2cents
TyTylomaParticipantTyloma here,
I am a 54 year old master swimmer. I’ve done the mega yardage back in the day. I love to compete but mentally I no longer have the endurance for the endurance.
I came across USRPT from other master swimmer and it made sense to me. I weand into it over 3-4 weeks, and full USRPT methodology about 2 weeks. I am at a national championship in France this week for a first test. Even though I am new to this I feel more confident, eager to swim and less psyched-out.
Results forth comingTy
